The Bordon Garrison
celebrated its centenary in 2004
Thanks are due to Dr Chris Wain and Major (retd) Roger Bennett who tell the story of the army presence for the first one hundred years in Bordon with the help of the Bordon Garrison Commander, Colonel Roger Owen. Much use has been made of the previous military history written by Major R.G. Reed in 1982, together with reports on Garrison activities from the Farnham Herald newspapers and a scrapbook compiled by Reverend Laverty, rector of Headley Parish, now owned by Sue Allden. Use has also been made of the research into the early years of the Garrison carried out by the late Basil Smith.
Thanks are given to all those who have loaned photographs and to Geoffrey Ainley for permission to use his painting of the old Roman Catholic Church to illustrate this booklet and the Garrison Padre, Rev. Tyrone Hilary who arranged for it to be printed. Thanks also go to Bill Wain for inserting the illustrations in the appropriate places.
